Restaurant Review: Alma Mexicana - Miami Beach, FL

From the first time I was introduced to Alma Mexicana to the last time I ate there, I have remained a fan. Everytime I go, it gets better and better. Alma Mexicana offers fresh and dear I say authentic Mexican food at an affordable price. In South Beach, everything is so expensive and if its not expensive its either Burger King, pizza or just not that good, so I am so glad that Alma's exists. They are by far the best Mexican food on the beach.

The last time I went to Alma's I got the fish tacos. The fish tacos consist of breaded and fried tilapia, shredded cabbage, mayo and salsa stuffed in double corn tortillas. I also add hot sauce from from the salsa bar (I am Jamaican, I need my spicy). It comes with 3 tacos but I am greedy and ate two before I remembered to take a picture.

Although it is a small casual dining restaurant, there is enough seating. The service is fast, the staff is friendly and the portions big. I couldn't ask for more or maybe I could. They also have margaritas and they are damn good too!!!

Restaurant Review: OneBurger - Sunrise, FL

What can I say about OneBurger other than I loved it. A gourmet burger at a great price ($10-$12 for a meal vs. $6-$8 at a fast food chain), you just can't beat it! I ordered the Fancy Bacon Cheddar Burger and while there is nothing too fancy about this burger, their special sauce (a savory Worcestershire spread) added the right touch. A good burger for me has a lot to do with balance and this burger dished up the right balance of everything. Not too much sauce or cheese, right bun size for the patty, not overcooked, I was satisfied.

So what if I have had better burgers? Regardless it was still pretty damn good and the best part for me is that it is close to home. You do not understand how hard it is to find option good dining options in Broward, let alone in my area. Yes the burgers are good but the sides are just as good. In addition to the regular fry option they offer my fave, sweet potato fries, and not only that but yuca fries too. They also have onion rings which I usually am not a fan of but they are crisp, not overly battered and cooked fresh, so I enjoyed them.

Besides beef burgers, they offer chicken/turkey, seafood and even vegetarian options. If for some odd reason, you are not interested in any of those burger options, they have salads too.

I can't wait to go back and try something new.

Restaurant Review: Sushi N Thai - West Miramar, FL

My initial thought upon walking into Sushi N Thai was ah man it's empty, it must not be that good. Wary that the food might not be that good, we decided to started with just a Spicy Tuna Roll.  From the first bite my fear had subsided, it was good. Excited, we ordered more; the Orange Dragon Roll and South American Roll. Both were even more amazing. Everything tasted fresh, the rice was cooked just how I like and they offered selections outside of the typical varieties.

Although the service was not to be commended, it was not bad either. For me, its just a bit awkward when your waitress standing right by your table watching the TV on the wall in front you. In any case, if I'm in the area I would definitely come back. The rolls are amazing and I would go as far as to label Sushi N Thai the best in the area. Despite the lack of people dining at the restaurant, it seems they make up for that in delivery and take out.

Restaurant Review: Wayward Sailor Pub - Fort Lauderdale, FL

When I first saw the pub, my first thought was cheesy themed and once inside it was more or less the same. Despite that the small pub was very welcoming. You can tell that they cater to locals but as a newbie, I was given equal respect. It is not the kind of place I usually go to, but I was attending a show at the Culture Room and both are located in the same shopping plaza so I decided to go there. I was looking for a place to pregame before the show and with great happy hour specials ($2.50 domestic draft and well drinks), I couldn't deny that. Most bars offer the same typical foods but at Wayward they have a full menu that includes Tex-Mex dishes, sandwiches and burgers, and also the usual pub favorites such as homemade shepherd’s pie and fish and chips. I hadn't eaten before leaving home, so our group ordered the flautas and buffalo chicken strips. For bar food, both were pretty good since I was not expecting that. They also have a few flat-screen TVs broadcasting most sporting events so it is also a great place to go and watch your favorite team play although there is a bias to Pittsburgh.
